Nothing says spooky season like Freddy Krueger and the Max streaming service certainly knows that! Arriving just in time for Halloween viewing to be watched alongside some of your other Halloween classics, the streamer has now added some essential entries in the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise to their platform.
According to the official Max site, the first five (and arguably the best, excluding New Nightmare) movies in the franchise are now available on the streamer. That includes A Nightmare on Elm Street, A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master and A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child. Freddy vs. Jason is also on Max.
If you're looking for Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare and Wes Craven's New Nightmare, you won't find them streaming anywhere for now, but you can rent them on Apple TV, Google Play Movies, or Fandango At Home if you don't have physical copies and want to complete your Freddy marathon.
News of their arrival on Max comes a week before the original A Nightmare on Elm Street is set to be released for the first time on 4KUltra HD on Oct. 15. Available for the first time in the format, fans can pick up a standard slipcover version of the release or get some pretty fun cover art with the steelbook edition. Reviews for the release regarding its video and audio have been positive so far and, while the extras are carried over from previous legacy releases, this is likely the best the film has looked in years. Don't be surprised if news drops that other entries will be getting the 4K treatment with you soon having to break the bank on a massive 4K box set.
A Nightmare on Elm Street Is a True Classic Horror Franchise
The first five A Nightmare on Elm Street films map out Freddy Krueger's legacy in horror and pop culture. Next month will be the first film's 40th anniversary, a significant milestone for a movie that changed the horror genre in a big way. Written and directed by Wes Craven, his tale of teenagers targeted by an undead child murderer in their dreams became a hit and an instant horror classic, grossing $57.1 million worldwide on a slim $1.8 million budget.

Robert Englund Wasn’t the First Choice for Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street
Freddy Krueger is one of Hollywood's most legendary horror villains, but the demented killer almost had a completely different look and feel.
Some argue that the sequels solidified Freddy's place in horror and the pop culture lexicon. While Craven didn't return for A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge, the fact that it outgrossed the first film domestically ($25.5 million vs. $30 million) showed strong interest in the character.
By the time A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master were released, the films entered true box office supremacy, outgrossing the first two films domestically, with the fourth film becoming the highest-grossing entry of the franchise ($49.4 million) until the release of Freddy vs. Jason. Even Craven would warm up to the franchise again, writing and directing the meta horror film Wes Craven's New Nightmare, which would become a major influence on the genre (and predate its progeny, Scream).
The success also made the actor beneath the Freddy Krueger makup, Robert Englund, a huge star within the genre, forever making him a horror movie mainstay for bringing the character to life. Even though fan reaction and box office presence for the fifth installment began to show the franchise was hitting a wall, all the installments have remained popular on some level with fans. They continue to be the stuff of nightmares for anyone looking for one good scare or the occasional quip from the man with the claws.
